Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast provides non-medical home care services in two categories. Homemaker and companionship services cover light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, medication reminders, and companionship. Personal care covers hands-on help with bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, mobility, and eating. Schedules run from as few as 6 hours per week up to 24/7 coverage.
No. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast provides non-medical in-home care, which means caregivers help with daily living tasks rather than skilled nursing, therapy, or medical treatment. A registered nurse conducts the initial in-home assessment and supports caregiver training, but ongoing care is non-medical support in the home.
Caregivers provide medication reminders only. They can remind a client when it is time to take a medication, read prescription labels, and help open packaging. Caregivers at Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast cannot administer medication, and this limit applies to every client regardless of the care plan.
Yes, as part of an ongoing care plan. When Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is providing regular weekly care, the caregiver can drive to doctor’s appointments, shopping, and social outings, and stay with the client throughout rather than dropping them off. This is not a medical transport service. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast does not provide specialized transport or vehicles, and senior transportation is not offered as a standalone service.
Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast provides dementia support services, which include supervision, cueing and redirection, companionship, and help with daily activities for people living with memory loss. The practical goal is safety at home, such as making sure a client is not left alone when wandering or an unattended stove would be a risk. These are non-medical services and do not include clinical treatment for Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
Yes. Family caregiver support from Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast covers a few hours, a full day, a standing weekly block, or an extended trip, depending on what the family needs. Respite coverage is available at any hour, including overnight.
Yes. Caregivers assist with transfers from bed to chair, walking, and moving safely around the home, and the initial nurse assessment includes a fall prevention review covering grab bars, shower access, throw rugs, and clutter in walkways. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is not equipped for high-acuity cases that require full lift assistance, and the nurse assessment establishes whether the service fits before care begins.

Yes. Adult children arranging care from a distance make up a large share of the families who call Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast, and intake can be handled entirely by phone with paperwork completed electronically. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast also provides regular check-ins so family members who live far away know how their loved one is doing between visits.
Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is built on a peer-to-peer model, which means caregivers are experienced, mature adults who share a generational background with the people they care for. Many came to caregiving after caring for a spouse or parent of their own rather than through a career path. Shared reference points make conversation and companionship come naturally, and the model produces far lower caregiver turnover than the industry norm.
Caregiver turnover at Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is less than half the industry average, which runs between 68% and 80% annually according to a large yearly benchmarking study of home care agencies. Caregivers who do leave typically give advance notice, sometimes months ahead, so care can be transitioned instead of interrupted. Families evaluating any home care agency should ask for its turnover rate before signing anything.
Yes. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast tracks the Continuity of Care Index, which measures whether the same caregivers are consistently assigned to the same clients over time. Most home care agencies do not measure continuity at all. Consistency also improves safety, because a caregiver who knows a client well notices changes in mobility, appetite, or memory early.
Yes. Every caregiver completes Level 2 background screening through Florida’s Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse before providing any care. Level 2 is the most thorough screening available in the state.
Yes. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is fully bonded and insured, with general liability, professional liability, workers’ compensation, and cybersecurity coverage.
Every caregiver at Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast completes at least three hours of dementia and Alzheimer’s-related training. Home health aides who provide hands-on personal care complete 40 hours of coursework followed by additional training with the in-house nurse. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast covers the full cost of all required training and provides the courses.
Matching starts with the in-home nurse assessment, then screens the caregiver pool for skill set, availability, and proximity to the client’s home. When several caregivers meet those criteria, Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast narrows the match using personality, background, and any specific requests from the client or family.
Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast changes the match. The care plan is adjusted based on the family’s feedback and a new caregiver is introduced. Match changes are uncommon because the pairing process accounts for personality alongside skills, but they are handled quickly when a family asks.
Care typically begins between 48 hours and one week after the first call to Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast. Straightforward schedules can be staffed within a couple of days. Around-the-clock schedules take longer because several caregivers have to be coordinated.
A registered nurse visits the home for roughly an hour to evaluate care needs, review the home for safety hazards, and talk through the family’s concerns. The nurse checks for grab bars near the toilet and shower, walk-in shower access, throw rugs, and clutter in walkways, then makes specific recommendations that caregivers help put in place. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast generally completes the assessment within 24 to 48 hours of the initial call.
Schedules with Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast start at 6 hours per week and scale up to 24/7 continuous coverage. Around-the-clock schedules are staffed by caregivers rotating in shifts.
Yes. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast provides overnight coverage, and caregivers working night shifts are required to stay awake for the full shift. That protocol exists so clients who get up frequently at night or become disoriented in the dark have someone alert and available.
Call Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast at 941-877-1000 or reach out online. Most families start with a short 10 to 15 minute call to talk through the situation and see whether the service is the right fit, with no obligation to move forward.
Yes. Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is contracted with the Veterans Administration, and eligible veterans pay nothing out of pocket for VA-funded care. The VA assesses each veteran and authorizes a set number of weekly hours, typically 4 to 20, and Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast schedules home care for veterans within that authorization.
Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is contracted with several Medicare Advantage plans, including Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Longevity Health Plan, and Ultimate Health Plans, and with PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly). Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast is also an approved provider for Florida Department of Elder Affairs programs including Community Care for the Elderly (CCE), the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (ADI), Home Care for the Elderly (HCE), and the Older Americans Act Title III-E caregiver support program. Each program assesses the individual, authorizes a set number of weekly hours, and covers care at little to no out-of-pocket cost for those who qualify. More detail is on the paying for home care page.
Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast bills every other week for the two weeks of care already provided. No upfront payment or deposit is required. Most families pay privately, though eligible veterans and those enrolled in certain Medicare Advantage, PACE, or Florida elder-care programs may have coverage that reduces or eliminates out-of-pocket cost.
For most families, yes. In-home care generally costs less than a residential facility until care reaches roughly 10 to 12 hours a day, seven days a week, at which point the two become comparable. Most clients of Seniors Helping Seniors® Suncoast need far less care than that.
