The same caregivers, visit after visit
Consistent care means the same caregiver showing up, learning routines, and building a real relationship over time. For veterans, that consistency reduces stress and improves safety. Caregivers stay long-term, so your loved one is supported by familiar faces, not a rotation of new people. We track the Continuity of Care Index (COCI) to make sure the same caregivers stay with the same clients over time, and most home care agencies do not measure this at all.
Contracted with VA, Medicare Advantage, and PACE
A small percentage of home care agencies hold a contract with any one of these programs. We hold all three, which reflects the credentialing and quality standards each requires.
Experienced, mature adult caregivers
Our caregivers are mature adults who share genuine life experience with the veterans they serve. That common ground makes for a different kind of relationship than you find at most agencies.
Getting started is straightforward. Most families go from their first call to active care within 48 hours to one week, depending on the complexity of the schedule.
Call us or reach out online. Our intake coordinator will spend about 15 minutes learning about the veteran's needs, answering your questions, and confirming whether VA funding applies to their situation.
We send documents for review and signature. This can be handled digitally or in person, whichever is easier.
A registered nurse visits the home for an approximately one-hour assessment, typically within 24 to 48 hours of your first contact.
We match on skill set, availability, and proximity first, then narrow by personality and the veteran's specific preferences.
Simple schedules can start within a couple of days. 24/7 arrangements take a bit longer to coordinate across multiple caregivers.
For eligible veterans, VA-funded home care costs nothing out of pocket. The VA assesses each veteran and authorizes a specific number of weekly hours, and Seniors Helping Seniors® provides care within those hours at no charge to the veteran or their family. For a full overview of all payment options, see our paying for care page.
The VA authorizes 4 to 20 weekly hours based on need. We provide care within that authorization at no cost to the veteran.
Veterans enrolled in qualifying Medicare Advantage plans may have home care covered at no out-of-pocket cost, subject to plan authorization.
Veterans enrolled in the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly receive services covered through the program at no out-of-pocket cost.
Veterans who need more care than a program authorizes can add hours on a private-pay basis. We bill every other week, with no upfront payment required.
We provide home care for veterans throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties. If you are not sure whether we cover your specific area, call us and we will confirm right away.
If you have a veteran in the family who may benefit from in-home support, we can help you figure out what is available and whether VA funding applies. Most families start with a short 10 to 15 minute call.
Not necessarily. VA eligibility for home care depends on several factors, including service history, disability rating, and current health needs. The best way to confirm eligibility is to contact the VA directly. You can also call us and we can help you understand what to ask for.
The VA assesses each veteran individually and authorizes weekly care hours based on the level of need. Authorization typically ranges from 4 to 20 hours per week. We then schedule and provide care within those authorized hours.
Respite care can be included as part of a VA-funded care plan, which gives family caregivers scheduled time away while the veteran receives professional in-home support. VA funding is directed toward the veteran’s care, and respite is one component of that.
Yes. Care is available around the clock, including overnight. For overnight shifts, caregivers are required to stay awake throughout the night to safely assist veterans who may need help getting up or moving around in the dark.
If a veteran needs more care than the VA authorizes, additional hours can be arranged on a private-pay basis. We bill every other week for services provided, with no upfront payment required.
Yes. A registered nurse visits the veteran’s home for an approximately one-hour assessment before care begins. This covers care needs, the home environment, and fall prevention. The assessment typically happens within 24 to 48 hours of your first call.
We start with practical requirements: skill set, availability, and proximity to the veteran’s home. From there, we narrow the match based on personality and any specific preferences the veteran or family shares. The goal is a consistent, long-term relationship, not just a filled shift.
